Molly at 12 weeks

Molly's Height: 14 inchesMolly's Weight: 20 PoundsToday's topic is Molly and her evil catz. But first we have to tell you about our first visit to dr. Rachel. We found a new holistic vet, one who combines Eastern with Western medicine, just what we've been looking for. Irvington Veterinary Clinic in Portland, ORI think she's brilliant, we took our Nyx to see her and we spend almost 3 hours for a first visit, granted Nyx was very ill so it took a while to get all treatments done but the bill didn't show that amount of time spend. So now it was Molly's turn, Molly was up for her second round of deworming and puppy shots. I learned something new, namely that puppy need to be vaccinated against Parvo every 3- 4 weeks until they're 16 weeks old. Who knew? I didn't. I thought pups just needed 2 rounds of puppy cocktails and a rabies. But not so said dr. Rachel and she is not pro over-vaccination. Of course I didn't believe her and looked it up online and wadda ya think? She was right. Hmm.. I probably had puppies vaccinated at an older age I think.Dr. RachelSo Molly got her shot. She got the whole work up, weight, height, eyes, ears etc. and she was healthy as can be and got the seal of approval ;-) We used interceptor as wormer and she and no ill side effects. of course she left with a full belly of treats and samples ;-) And she got a nice welcome packet will all kinds of goodies. It is so nice to be able to discuss feeding a raw diet with your vet! Our prior vet who I love dearly as a person was absolutely against raw feeding and in the end that turned me off because I had to lie to her every time I saw her.

Molly at 11 weeks

Molly's Height: 12 inches
Molly's Weight: 18 Pounds

This weeks' entry will be photos of Molly and Fynn. Her big brother. He certainly deserves an entry, Fynn is the perfect dog in every way. Never obnoxious, naughty, always listens, is content if I lie in bed all day because of my illness he will just keep me company. Will never ever ask to go out to play if he knows I'm ill and can't. We can lounge all day, have some snacks and share, watch some tv and as long as he can be with me he is a happy boy. But don't let that fool you, if there is some action going on somewhere he's more than happy to join in. Especially now Molly is here he has reverted a bit to his puppy days, so cute to see him a bit mischievous!

Who is mischievous?

When Fynn was a wee little boy he could not let the bushes alone in the yard. He figured it was his job to trim them down for spring. Many branches have come off that one and it survived pretty well, it gave bunches of flowers this summer! Now he's teaching Molly the ropes of how to properly chew the branches. Don't know why especially that one, it must taste pretty good ;-)

Fynn at 12 weeks!

Molly helping trim the tree!

And oh my how they run and run and run through the yard. Molly is still small enough to run underneath the pine needle trees but Fynn doesn't fit there anymore. So funny to see how he stalks her in true Border Collie fashion, or Molly stalks Fynn while he is giving her 'the eye'. There is absolutely no doubt that Molly has the Border Collie gene, she crouches and ever so slowly with her little paw up in the air she sneaks up on Fynn focussing her eye as she goes.

Below are a few pics of Molly and Fynn. As you will notice it's still nearly impossible for me to capture them while running. I have trouble stabilizing my camera as I can not bend over or sit on the ground. Will have to use a tripod.

As always please click on the images to see the larger files in the album.

Molly sitting still for a moment but facing the wrong way!

I'll wait till he's close and than I grab him!

Give me that ball! Aiiiiii close!

Roughhousing after dinner, a ritual! Oh my you have BIG teeth!

Now who was a wee tiny puppy again? Molly showing her pink tummy. ;-)

After play they nap together, they are pretty much inseparable
How cute are they?

Molly at 9 and 10 weeks

Molly's Height: 10 inches
Molly's Weight: 16 Pounds

You have to forgive me the dates don't match I had some catching up to do. I wrote Molly's blog entries but could not decide on the design, none of the ones I tried out was to my liking and in the end I decided to design my own as usual. In the meanwhile I became non-active because I went down with a sinus infection and before you know it 3 weeks past.

The design is finished now and I can transfer the entries. I hope to be up to dat by the end of the week ;-)

Molly has been here for 2 weeks now and they have been filled with opening doors to go outside to potty and play. She is adjusting pretty well to my schedule which means sleep till at least 10:00 AM and a siesta in the afternoon from 3:00 till 7:00 PM in between we play and snuggle and play and snuggle and eat. ;-) Christmas was here and went by and so did the New Year, we didn't notice much of it and also didn't pay much attention to it, busy as we were with out new child, we had our own entertainment.
Waldo had 2 weeks off to help and bond with Miss Molly which we think is so important taking some days off to bond with your new pup. As a rescuer I always hesitate to adopt a pup out to people who work all day, unless they have made arrangements like doggy day care or the pups goes to work with them or it stays with Grandma during the day. Puppies this young need their humans, socializing is so important at this age and they can not be left alone for 8 or 9 hours a day. Doing so can cause behavioral problems at a later stage.

We have not taken Molly anywhere yet other than the local Pet Boutique PetUtopia, the weather hasn't been great and we think she is not ready for a doggy park yet, she needs her second round of puppy shots and than we will go to puppy romp next Sunday.

Molly will be going to the vet tomorrow for a check-up and her shots, we're excited to see how she will react to new people and the new environment. She has already met the neighbor girl who has a Border Collie herself and is 9 years old and very calm and respectful of dogs. I would not hesitate to let her take Molly for a walk.

Molly did wonderful at the pet store of course the owners, who we have come to know very well over the years, all ooohhed and aaahhed over her. It's a fantastic little store, they organize so much for us humans and also for the pups, scavenger hunt in the store, many courses and workshops like nose work, stay fit with your dog and pilatus ball work with your dog to stretch and strengthen his back muscles. This is a wonderful workshop being done by and awesome trainer Bobbie Lyons. Bobbie's website is listed to the right here on my blog, or you can click here for more info.
They made sure to greet Fynn first and had treats for him, he has been going there since he was a puppy and they want to acknowledge him that their relationship with him was still the same and not give all the attention to Miss Molly who had to wait for her turn.

Molly was a big hit with everyone at the store customers and employees and who would not be smitten with that adorable face with the whiskers and freckles and a happy go lucky personality?
we stayed for a while, it was good to socialize for Molly in a safe environment.
She loves to travel in the car and goes into her travel crate without a peep. During the night she also sleeps in her crate and sleeps through the night till 7:00 AM than Waldo lets her out to pee and back she goes for another couple of hours.

During the day she snoozes with Fynn on his bed, Fynn has been home from Doggy Day Care because of the Holiday schedule, it will be interesting to see how she will react to being the day alone with me when Fynn goes back to play!

Here a few pics of Molly inspecting the yard after Fynn went with his dad to he doggy park.

Meet Sweet Miss Molly Malone!

Meet our Sweet Miss Molly Malone!

Born Oct. 15 2010 to a German mom and a Scottish dad, 2 wonderful canines came together to produce this of exceptional mix of a German Pointer and a Border Collie. A mix that is going to cause a lot of mischief having the smartest nose combined with the smartest brain on the canine planet, we will be in for a treat!

Below is the first photo we received of Miss Molly and who would not melt and fall in love with this face? Molly is 5 weeks old in this pic.

The litter had 2 females and we were so lucky to have first pick, not having met her we hoped we made the right choice. Your heart knows when you make that connection that this is the pup that is ment to share your life. I loved her whiskers, her little beard, her licorice nose, her alert eyes and her spots or freckles on her little paws.
We were in love the moment we saw her pic and couldn't wait till the moment was there that we could hold her in our arms.

Her litter had to move to one of our Border Collie rescuers, Pat, in WA State. Pat is a puppy expert and mostly fosters litters of pups with or without moms. She does a wonderful job raising them having nanny Border Collies and a nanny cat making puppies more adoptable by having learned to be respectful towards cats. Please click on this link for Pat's blog to see photos and stories of Molly's brothers and sister.
Molly had to travel from Pat's home to ours and trip not for the faint of heart, snow, ice, mountains and not really suitable roads to drive the 7-8 hours. Luckily there was another kind rescue person(Thank you Morrey!) who took Molly closer to Seattle and on Dec.20 Waldo drove the 5 hours to the parking lot at Costco's and there she was, our precious 8 weeks old little bundle of fur. Finally ours!!

She was everything we thought she would be and more! Tired from the long drive but spunky, full of life she was greeted by her big brother Fynn and it was an instant love on first sight. They started roughhousing, playing kissy-face, keep-away and zoomies and haven't stopped since!

Below is a photo serie made by Kim St.Ours, Molly's first foster mom where she was born.

All my photos are clickable so please click them to see the larger version.
